Jack's Nursery! All the details on this Farmhouse Animal Inspired Room! July 27, 2017 10:04

Well guys, as I'm sure you can see if you follow along on Facebook or Instagram, things have been pretty busy around here!
We welcomed our sweet baby boy Jack on June 6th and the entire family has fallen completely head over heels for him. More details on newborn baby Jack to come in a later post!

I've never been one for over the top themes, I just tend to collect things I like and then hope that it all comes together. So was the case with Jack's nursery. It started as a bit of a farmhouse style (hello, #shiplap) and then some Animals of North America were added to the mix. Like I said, I struggle a little with a theme, but in the end I love how it all came together!
Gentry CA
The first thing I knew I wanted in the room was a shiplap wall. After doing this one, I wish I could shiplap the whole dang house..but I don't think hubby would be too thrilled. After reading tons of blogs with ideas on HOW to do a faux shiplap wall, we basically took some tips and then headed to Home Depot. We found these pressed board planks, spaced them appropriately and then used about 10 million nails to adhere it to the wall. It was labor of love...especially when hubs had to fill in all the holes and then paint over it. Oops! It was all worth it in the end though. So the shiplap wall ended up being the "feature" wall of the room. Centered on it are the crib and these darling metal letters from Anthropologie. Aren't they amazing?
Gentry CA Anthropologie letters
The crib was actually both of the girls' crib and I felt like it never really "went" with the styles of their rooms. Now having it in Jack's nursery, it looks perfect! 3rd time's the charm, right?!
The cute little bison crib sheet came from Spearmint Love. It's a soft muslin and we have the quilt to match (that I've been taking his weekly pictures on!) One week new - isn't he pure bliss???
Weekly Milestone Pictures Gentry CA
One we decided on the bison quilt and crib sheet, adding the moose seemed like a natural move. We've actually had this White Faux Taxidermy in our family room since a few Christmas' ago (we loved it so much, we just couldn't pack him away) and decided that it was a great addition to the space.

I'm pretty sure he needs a name, don't you agree?!

We already had the glider and dresser and just dressed them up with a new Linen Compass pillow and some new drawer pulls (thank you, World Market). The distressed window pane actually came from my parents' farmhouse and I just love it so much (we actually have a few around our house!).
I swooped up the wire basket from Hobby Lobby and the cute faux potted succulents came from Amazon...because as a mama to 3 AND a small business owner, ain't nobody got time for watering plants!
The fun, industrial shelving also came from Hobby Lobby.
Isn't this little lamp cute?! Again, another Amazon purchase! My only complaint is it's battery operated so while it looks super cute, it's not super functional as a night light which I was hoping. The darling little piggy bank is a family tradition (hubby has given one to each of the kiddos at their baby shower).
Isn't this hand lettered sign amazing?! Thank you, @allisigns <3

This sweet little teepee from Land of Nod is also something we have had for a while and it has now found it's home in Jack's room.

The girls love to come in here and read stories! Lots of memories will be in store for this special little boy's room.

A quick, easy & {HEALTHY} St. Patty's treat! March 16, 2017 16:41

Happy St. Patty's! We're getting ready to rock all things green & the girls can't wait to try and catch a leprechaun.
Today I've got a quick, easy & healthy Saint Patrick's day treat that your kiddos are sure to love! Sure, I absolutely love donuts, cookies and cupcakes as much as the next person but I sometimes feel like we could use a little healthy crunch in our holiday. This has become a little St. Pat's tradition for me to make every year - and yes - it's pairs great with a side of green pancakes or a mint milkshake ;)
Gentry CA St. Patty's Snack
This Rainbow fruit recipe really doesn't require a "recipe", it's just chop, arrange and add a "cloud". The girls LOVED it for snack and I'm pretty sure it's going to go onto the usual snack rotation.
For fruit - I picked strawberries, mandarins, pineapple, green apple, blueberries and blackberries! Some great substitutions would be red raspberries, green grapes or purple grapes, too! For the "cloud" in the middle of the rainbow, I used whipped cream. If you want to go a little healthier, a yummy vanilla yogurt would work, too!
Chop & Enjoy!
I hope everyone has a great day!
XO, Vibeka

A New Mommy Must-Have! March 06, 2017 17:39

As many of your know, we are so excited to be welcoming a baby boy in just 3 months (yikes! that seems incredibly soon!). Nesting is in full effect (read - we started painting the nursery and I can hardly wait to share the details) but one thing that has barely crossed my mind yet is what to pack in my hospital bag....I have plenty of time so I'll just keep riding this one out until it's the absolute last minute ;) So...in that case, I will probably be scrambling when the time does come to pack up my hospital bag.

For that reason - I'm sure I will be relying on the already incredible lists created from some of my favorite IG mamas! If you don't follow @masseya , you need to stop what you are doing and go do that right now. She's mom to three sweet little girls and has a baby boy arriving this month! Congrats, mama! She just recently featured our monogrammed seersucker weekender bag and all of the goodies she will be including in it when she heads to the hospital for baby #4. You can read her full post with her hospital checklist HERE

In the meantime - you can swoon over her pictures because doesn't she look incredible?! I already feel huge at 26 weeks!
As a congrats to all of our expecting mamas this year, we want to celebrate with you! Use code SEERSUCKERMAMA to save 20% on our monogrammed weekenders through 3/8/2017.

Little Girls' Room Makeover - Sisters Sharing a Bedroom! February 19, 2017 13:11

As you know, we are expecting baby #3 in June which meant that it was time for the two older girls to bunk up together! This was such a fun project and they have been really happy with their new special space. They both call it their "Princess Room" - not quite sure why but we'll roll with it ;)
We started by painting...which for these girly girls meant the perfect shade of piggy pink! We went with Benjamin Moore's Sugarcane which looks darling in the room and matches their bedding really well.
Speaking of bedding - as soon as I saw it, I knew the girls needed this darling floral Matilda Jane comforter and pillow sham! It's a great pattern which is girly but I think will grow with them (and it's reversible with bold stripes on the back! Bonus!)
For sheets, I found these super soft dark grey sheets on Amazon that again are a great match to the floral bedding! The sweet little throw pillows came from Marshall's.
The beds both came from Meli-D Creations, a local business. The one on the left, we had custom built as a trundle bed when we moved into our new house and the second one I found at one of her warehouse sales when Chloe was a baby and just knew we would need it in her room someday! It's just the sweetest!
Because both girls are a little obsessed with horses, we added some horse themed touches to the room. The above canvas was from a local Tack store, but can also be found online: HERE.
The watercolor floral horse print I found on IG a while ago, unfortunately, it looks like the link is no longer working :( I did find some cute options on Etsy though - like this one: watercolor floral horse.
We added some floating white IKEA shelves for special trinkets and figurines. We read tons of books, so this sweet little bookshelf was perfect for the space!
Since we were putting both girls into one room, we had to eliminate a dresser and make the most of the space we have. (With girls whose mama is a Matilda Jane Clothing trunk keeper and also monograms clothes, we had a LOT of clothes to fit into one closet!) We decided to create a custom closet with the PAX system with drawers from Ikea, some added shelving and a double hanging rod.
Pennant Banner: Starlit Nest Gifts
For a little extra added drawer space, we attached this IKEA Besta System below their window to function as both a night stand and also gives them two large drawers for storing art supplies. By attaching it to the wall, we are still able to pull the trundle bed out without having to move around a bunch of furniture.
Fan & Lamp: Marshalls
There's still a few more things I want to add to the space - I'm thinking something monogrammed above their bed but am still on the hunt. Other than that, it's pretty much finished up which means it will soon be time to move onto creating a nursery for Baby Boy! But for now - I'm in girl world loving all the pink, flowers and ruffles!

Valentine's Day Ready! February 13, 2017 13:39

Hey Mamas!
Can you believe tomorrow is already Valentine's Day?! Well I have a little something for all of you who have procrastinated. I found this great FREE download from The Gracious Wife on Pinterest for making some quick and completely adorable Valentine's.
Gentry CA Valentine's Day
I found these cute little Gummy Bear Bags on Amazon but if you don't have time to get those, she also has an option for tags for snack baggies so you can buy the big bag at almost any store and make them yourself! Hello, Easy Peasy!
We are officially ready for all those Valentine's parties that are happening at school tomorrow! Not to mention a cute top, necklace and bow to go along with it ;)
Happy Early Valentine's Day!

Gender Reveal! Will be a boy or girl be added to the family?! January 24, 2017 17:40

Yesterday we had our anatomy scan for baby #3 and learned that everything looks great and healthy so far! Such wonderful news! We also found out the gender of this sweet little baby that will be joining our family in June!
Hubby's mom wanted to throw us a reveal party for the whole family to learn the gender of the baby at the same time! We pretty much assumed it would be another little girl but it still sounded like a fun idea!
Well imagine our surprise when we cut open the cake and it was BLUE!!!! Holy smokes! Honestly - it was the best surprise ever because we were utterly and completely in shock. LOL We are so thrilled to be adding a little man to the family! The girls can hardly wait for a baby brother and he will just have to learn to wear tutus and all things pink. Kidding. Kind of ;)
But in all reality - it's time to get into the boy mindset and find all the cute baby boy things!!! You can bet monograms will be added to the wardrobe (once we decide on a name) and hubby is going to go football crazy, I'm sure.
Bring on the #boymama status !

A big announcement! GC becomes a family of 5 in 2017! January 19, 2017 16:49 3 Comments

Things are going to get a little busier...and even more exciting in 2017!
We have been eagerly waiting to share the news that we are expecting baby #3 this June! I think Chloe's face perfectly shows exactly how we all feel....super excited!
We found out the news right before the holiday season started which made for a very fun {and exhausting} November/December (also our busiest time of the year in the shop). Luckily I was spared a lot of morning sickness but did feel lots of moments of pure exhaustion! Things are finally starting to settle down and mama is feeling a little less tired and more like myself.
The girls are pretty thrilled to be adding another baby to the mix as we become a party of five this Summer! They are both hoping for a brother {although I think they would be equally thrilled with a sister} and Chloe asks almost every day if the baby will be here this weekend. The wait is so long!
We find out in less than a week if the #girltribe status continues or if we will be adding a little man to the family! What's your guess?!

Looking forward in 2017! January 16, 2017 15:45

Happy 2017!
The holidays are always so busy and fly by faster than we can ever imagine. I hope you had a wonderful season and created many memories to hold for years to come. In addition to the usual holiday shenanigans we got to spend an exciting White Christmas!
Together with our family, we watched the snow fall, drank lots of hot chocolate and watched the Grinch about 50 times over. It was just what we needed after the busy holiday rush!
Before we knew it, 2016 came to a close and 2017 was knocking on our door!
On a personal side, we've been cleaning, organizing and simplifying. My mind operates so much better when I have clean organized spaces filled with only items which hold importance. The girls have been undergoing a major room reno and I can't wait to share the details in the next couple weeks!
Behind the scenes at Gentry CA we've been cleaning our studio, purging old ideas to make room for new ones, we've been setting up some very exciting opportunities and I've been dreaming up what 2017 will hold and can't wait to share! While we have many dreams and ideas, I'd love to hear from you! What do you want to see from Gentry CA in 2017?

Fall Weekends October 10, 2016 22:16

This was one of those weekends where my weekend could use another weekend. It was jam packed with fun and Fall adventures!
Saturday morning included our usual market visit for fresh veggies, coffee and warm milk with marshmallows ;)
Hubby and I got to go out on two date nights...how does that even happen?! Did I take a picture of us for proof? Nope, but either way it happened and it was wonderful!
I did get some pics of the decor, of course #priorities.
A cozy spot at one of the dinners we went to. Vintage items get me every time.
Sunday morning we packed up the car and headed to the apple orchards. The air smelled of apples and cinnamon, we ate a few too many apple fritters and the girls loved doing crafts and riding on ponies, of course.
Mondays are kind of like our Sundays...only add in a whole bunch of work and school for the kiddos ;) So after school we all deserved a break and hit the pumpkin patch!
How many pumpkins is too many?! Trick question - you can never have too many at our house!
The girls discovered the corn pit and we may just be here everyday after school!
Another perfect weekend in the books! If I haven't said it enough yet, we love Fall.

Happy October! Christmas Pajama Preorders are now shipping!!! October 07, 2016 06:27

Happy October! Gosh, it has been way too long since our last blog post! We have been so busy behind the scenes finishing up Christmas pajama preorders and prepping for our holiday rush (all while trying to enjoy this Fall weather and all things pumpkin). We have lots of inventory, many orders, a few vendor fairs and endless cups of coffee prepared for the end of 2016! As always, it will be busy but we cannot wait!

It's been a really long week and I am beyond excited for some Fall activities! We'll be taking the girls to the pumpkin patch, baking up treats and so much more. I can't wait to share!

Here's a little peek at what's been going on behind the scenes in the Gentry CA Studio:

In just the last two weeks, we have embroidered, packaged and shipped well over 250 pairs of Christmas pajamas, 75+ monogrammed hoodies and a bunch of other fun holiday orders. I can't believe it! You guys - when I started this business, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be embroidering 1000's of pairs of Christmas jammies in a season. So thank you, thank you so much for helping this mama's dream of owning her own business become a reality!

If you preordered Christmas jammies, they should be in your mailbox soon! Be sure to send us those pictures!!!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Create the Perfect Christmas Card in 5 Easy Steps! September 18, 2016 16:55

Gentry CA Christmas Card
Christmas may be three months away, but I've already started dreaming up our family's Christmas card! I absolutely love Christmas time and capturing my family's growth and change throughout the year! I've compiled a list of my go-to tips for creating awesome family photos that you're sure to love for years to come!
Gentry CA Christmas Pajamas
Keep it festive: There is nothing cuter than a family in coordinating/matching clothes, accessories, or PJ's! I am totally considering using our Gentry California Monogrammed Pajamas for this year's photos!
Add your family's personality: Let the kids sign their names, draw little photos, add stickers, or use fun metallic pens to address your cards.
Gentry CA Christmas Pajamas
{Swoonworthy Christmas Card from Casi at CupcakeMag)
Don't strive for perfection: Posed photos are really sweet, but candid photos can be awesome too! Capturing the "in between" moments put an fun twist on the traditional Christmas card.
Lighting is key: Natural lighting and outside backgrounds provide the best set-up for family portraits. The natural lighting is not as harsh, and let's be honest, makes everyone in the photos look ah-mazing. And if you have Fall leaves or snow in the background, bonus!
Props can be fun: A strand of Christmas lights, plaid blankets for the kids, or even evergreen leaves can add another unique and fun dimension to your photos.

I hope this offers you some fun inspiration! Less than 100 days until Christmas!

Our Arizona Road Trip - Labor Day Weekend September 07, 2016 15:14

There are very few things that I will sit in the car for 16 hours each way with 2 little kids in traffic to do - but spending a weekend celebrating newlyweds with some of our best friends from college is a no-brainer!
Seersucker weekender bag
Labor Day weekend we traveled to the mountains in Arizona for a care free weekend. Things have definitely changed from our college days, many of us are married and have one (or a couple) kiddos in tow.
Girls side by side
Chloe High chair
We enjoyed the fresh mountain air, found rocks and rolly pollies and ate marshmallows by the camp fire.
We may not be able to party like we used to, but it was so great to catch up and laugh late into the night!
When the party is tropical themed, you go big or go home! Love these girls!
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend!

Going on Safari! Gentry turns 6! August 29, 2016 21:13

Gentry turned 6 this week which meant planning another fun birthday party! She is really into the show Wild Kratts and wanted to do an animal themed party. Personally, I'm not huge on trademarked/character type parties so we decided on a safari party! {Also so much easier to plan decor for}
 Gentry CA Safari Birthday Shirt
Shirt: Gentry CA, Skirt: Taylor Joelle
For the location, we settled on a local park (her choice!). We did parties at our house for a few years but once the friends and guest list grew we decided it was best to go elsewhere. {Huge bonus: you don't have to clean the house!}
Chloe's Dress (old) : June and January formerly Little Hip Squeaks , Hair bow: Bloomies Handmade
The park is great because there's already built in entertainment. The kids played on the playground for hours and only stopped for cupcakes and a quick game!
Safari Scavenger Hunt
Gentry came up with the idea for a Safari Scavenger Hunt all on her own! We added a few of the details but other than that, it was all her doing. The girls have tons of stuffed animals so we grabbed what was wild animal related and hid them around the park. We created a little checklist for the kids to go find them. After they had found all of them they came back for a little prize!
The prizes: Zebra bags filled with ring pops, Wild Kratts Rings and Safari Animal Tattoos
The game was a hit and easy enough for all of the kiddos (ages 2-10) to play!
Each guest got to Adopt a Monkey when they left and take it home to enjoy!
It was a Wild Time and our oldest girl is officially 6! Where does the time go!!!

It's Back to School! August 22, 2016 19:25

We said goodbye to Summer this morning and hello to a new school year! I can hardly believe Gentry is already a 1st grader. It was a little surreal dropping her off this morning. She seems so grown up to those tiny little kinder kids! I know she's going to have a fabulous year.
Gentry CA 1st Day of School
I love this chalkboard that we got from @melidcreations a few years ago. It's the perfect size for her to take pictures beside every year and see how much she has grown! Can you image how fun it will be to compare kindergarten to senior year of high school?
Gentry CA Monogrammed Backpacks
The girls had so much fun choosing their monogrammed backpacks and lunchboxes this year. And unlike last year - I had them all monogrammed before school started! I hate to admit it, but last year Chloe went to school with a blank lunchbox and backpack (the insanity!). When you're business is embroidery, that's pretty much a mom fail in my book! ;)
Gentry CA 1st Day of School
A successful first day of school calls for a sweet treat!
Good to the last sip!
Tell me - who's little's started school today? Did they love it?

Friday Crush List {The Fair, Food and Fall} August 19, 2016 14:36

Happy Friday!!! I have not been so excited to see a Friday in a LONG time! It's been a crazy hectic week as we prepare for back to school. Even though the temps are still in the triple digits, all this busyness has made it feel like Fall is right around the corner! Since it's Friday, it's about time we got back to our Friday Crush List...things that I have been crushing on and have made me happy this week :)
We launched our Fall Collection of bags this week and plaid is standing front and center! How perfect are these bags?!
Gentry CA Fair Days
  • The Fair
Our local fair is in town! We took the girls last night and Chloe was FINALLY tall enough to ride almost all the kiddie rides. Thank goodness! I was one worried mama this week wondering how it was all going to work out if she couldn't ride with big sis. Boots and a high pony helped add an inch ;)
  • Crispy Salt and Vinegar Smashed Potatoes
Hubby found this recipe and tried them out this week. They were amazing!!! And super easy! We added some coarse salt flakes and they were delicious!!! A must add to any menu.
Gentry CA Crazy Thankful
We're Crazy Thankful it's Friday and so excited about our most recent giveaway with @hobokinandco - I mean, can we talk about how gorgeous this necklace is? I think I might just end up wearing it every day! Go enter now!!!
"She'll ask for her Minnie Mouse nightgown, but once you put it on, she'll scream in agony because the sleeves are CLEARLY ripping her fucking arms off. Just find her Elsa one. Chances are, it's dirty as shit, but so what...so is she."
Now it's the last weekend before school starts so we are off to enjoy it, stay up late, do a little school shopping and relax as much as possible. It also happens to be bday weekend for mama, so in between all this I may just be enjoying a cocktail..or two ;)
Have a great weekend!

Our favorite Summer getaway! August 14, 2016 09:28

With Summer coming to a close (#sayitaintso), I thought I would share one of our favorite weekend getaways from the Summer. It was one of those weeks where temps were over 100 everyday, so the promise of cooler temps and was just what we needed. We loaded the car with everything under the sun (seriously - we were gone less than 48 hours and the car was packed to the brim #momlife) and hit the road to Santa Cruz.
Trips to the ocean always have my heart. There's something just so calming about endless rolling waves.
We had a quick trip to the Aquarium which the girls loved! Lots of interactive activities and things for them to see and do!
We hit the beach and then did what we do best...ate our way through the rest of the weekend!
Now with just a week until school starts, we'll be lathering on sunscreen, hitting the waterpark, staying up past our bedtime and roasting s'mores and soaking up Summer!

A Fall Favorite from our New Collection August 09, 2016 12:55

Well things have been crazy busy since we launched our Fall Collection on August 1!
Thank you all for the amazing compliments and kind words on our latest season of monogrammed and graphic goodness! I have so much fun designing every collection and since Fall is my favorite season of the year, it's always one of my absolutely favorite lines to design. Pumpkins, plaid, cooler temps - I'll take it all - and warp it up with a pretty monogram!
Gentry CA Fall Shirt
Anyway - Gentry and I have been busy in the workshop working on orders and enjoying this Summer while little sister is off at nursery school. The other morning we snuck in a cute little photo shoot with one of my absolute favorite shirts from our Fall 2016 Collection.

I can't believe that in a couple short weeks this sweet girl will be starting first grade! Time please slow down!!! Until then we will be soaking up every last bit of what Summer has to offer.

6 Tips for Making Back to School a Little Easier! July 30, 2016 07:41

Well, Summer has flown by (as it always does). We still have a little less than a month until school starts and we will be soaking up every last day of Summer we can but we are also starting to think (panic) about Back to School. The dreaded early mornings, the carpool drop off and finding time to chug some caffeine all before 8:30 am are coming.
Gentry will be in 1st grade this year and Chloe is still in nursery school and neither one is much of a morning person so here are my 6 tips for making the back to school mornings a little easier.
Wake up an hour earlier than everyone else. This is especially hard if you aren't a morning person but I promise, that extra hour without little humans spilling milk, having to go to the bathroom 5 times, crying because they got the blue bowl instead of the green one and scrambling because they can't find their left shoe makes all the difference in the world. It's 60 minutes of silence where I can get up, get dressed and ready for the day, answer a few emails and start working on that cup of coffee without all the other distractions.
The second we walk through the door in the afternoons, everything comes out of backpacks (homework, papers to sign, dirty clothes...everything.) Homework is started right after a snack, papers are signed and once that is completed everything gets zippered back in backpacks and put by the front door for the next day. That way there's no mad morning scramble to check homework or sign permission slips.
I pack lunches the night before, put those in the fridge, have water bottles filled and lunchboxes sitting on the counter so it's all ready to grab and go.
Yes, I completely agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the weekend is perfect for creating yummy veggie scrambles, bacon & eggs, pancakes and more but not during the week. Some of our faves that are tasty & healthy:
  • - Plain instant oatmeal, 2% milk, a splash of vanilla, cinnamon and add either fresh blueberries or bananas after. Literally this can be made in under 3 minutes! #momwin
  • - Egg bake - there are tons of recipes on Pinterest and if you spend a Sunday afternoon prepping them in muffin tins you have handly little egg bakes that are perfect for on the go. Kid approved, too!
  • - Yogurt and granola with fresh berries (no cooking involved!)
  • - And of course there are plenty of mornings where it's a toaster waffle in the car with a side of apple slices or some strawberries (no shame in my mama game!)
Every evening before bed we will set out clothes for the next day. It makes for no options in the morning and makes the whole getting ready process much easier. And that way you aren't scrambling for a red shirt on school spirit day ten minutes before you leave the house...assuming you have marked that holiday in your calendar ;)
And the last piece of advice, make sure your gas tank (and coffee cup) are full as your head out the door. There's nothing worse that getting in the car when you're already late and your gas light comes on 3 feet after pulling out of the drive way. I really despise getting gas but if you realize the afternoon before that you're running low - just go fill it up.
Basically - the big lesson here is prep, prep, prep. Organizing and planning ahead will do wonders for a mostly smooth morning!

This sweet little crossbody purse is ideal for a mom on the go. We're out of the diaper bag stage in our house so I can finally go out with just a little purse with the essentials rather than lugging around a giant bag with diapers, snacks, wipes, extra clothes and the kitchen sink! #momlife
